Tourist guide “Jewish Kamianets” to be published

The tourist guide “Jewish Kamianets” is currently being prepared for publication under the patronage of the Institute of History of Ukraine, with the participation of the International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies and the Zionist Federation of Ukraine.

The authors of the guide are Eugene Levinzon, Executive Director of the International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies, a postgraduate researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a professional tour guide, and author of academic publications on the Jewish heritage of Podillia; and Hanna Kivilsha, an independent researcher who previously headed the research department of the National Historical and Architectural Reserve “Kamianets” and has studied the Jewish heritage of the city and region for over 30 years.

Developed on the basis of many years of archival research, the guide covers 18 sites of Jewish heritage in Kamianets-Podilskyi, presenting the centuries-long history of one of the largest Jewish communities in Podillia. It represents the first attempt to comprehensively document the Jewish history of this historic city in a printed edition.

The project “Jewish Kamianets: Jewish Heritage for Community Development” is based on the materials of the guide and aims to organically combine research, educational, and cultural activities.

The initiative seeks to encourage active participation from community members, especially young people and volunteers, in researching, promoting, and preserving the city’s Jewish heritage. It also contributes to strengthening Jewish identity and engaging new generations of young people with Jewish roots in community life.
